People in Kashmir are hopeful that the G20 meeting will pave the way for more investment and create job opportunities for youth in the valley. The stage has been set to hold the G20 meeting from May 22-24 in Kashmir for which adequate arrangements are being made by the government.
The proposed itinerary of foreign delegates includes a shikara ride on Dal Lake as well as a visit to the ski resort of Gulmarg and the Dachigam National Park known for hangul (the Kashmiri stag). Momin Ahmad, a college student, said that people in Kashmir are hopeful that the G20 meeting will bring more investment to the region.
“I believe it will also create more job opportunities for Kashmiris. Coming delegates from over 20 countries will send a positive message that Kashmir is a safe place for the investment which will create new job opportunities for the youth of the valley,” Momin said.
In recent years, the Kashmir valley has witnessed an unprecedented rise in tourism. People in the valley have large expectations for the G20 meeting as it is a platform for the world’s largest economies to come together and discuss important issues that affect the global economy. The member countries of the G20 contribute to more than 80 per cent of the world’s GDP, and their decisions have a significant impact on the world economy.
“Unemployment is the biggest issue which Kashmir is facing. These delegates from 20 countries should work as brand ambassadors for Kashmir. They should work for the promotion of tourism in their respective countries,” said Altaf Ahmad, a cab driver.
The region has immense potential for tourism, and the people of Kashmir have been working hard to showcase their culture and hospitality to the world. “The G20 meet will also be an opportunity for the people of Kashmir to showcase their talent and skills. The region has a rich tradition of handicrafts, and the local artisans are known for their intricate work. We hope the G20 meeting in Kashmir will create a positive environment for tourism promotion and economic development,” he added.
Meanwhile in the run-up of the forthcoming third G20 Tourism Working Group meeting to be held in Srinagar, Secretary Tourism, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah kick started a range of captivating tourism-related activities aimed at showcasing the mesmerizing charm and immense potential of Jammu and Kashmir here Friday at Zabarwan Park.
The event began with the exciting launch of a hot air balloon, an enchanting addition to the attractions available for tourists on the serene shores of the world famous Dal Lake, nestled beneath the majestic Zabarwan mountain range. Besides, Secretary Tourism inaugurated a cyclothon, the Zabarwan Trek, and a cleanliness drive, all designed to engage and delight tourists and locals alike.
