Finland is becoming the first nation in Europe to test out digital passports! Travellers will find it easier to go abroad thanks to these digital passports. Time will be saved, and long lines will be avoided.
This lovely country in Europe has begun testing “digital travel credentials,” or DTCs. Your phone is essentially a passport! Finnair, airport operator Finavia, and the Finnish police are working together to implement this experimental programme in Helsinki.
The programme currently only applies to Finns, and flights to London, Edinburgh, and Manchester begin at the end of August. The approach is being tested elsewhere besides simply Finland, though. Last year, the European Commission had contacted a number of European countries on the same. Croatia offered its participation, and a comparable pilot will be held in Zagreb later in 2023.
