To explore India’s coastline for economic purposes, the Union government has published a draft National Policy on Cruise Tourism. A National Cruise Tourism Board is proposed in the plan in order to coordinate activities, incorporate cruise tourism into India’s destinations, attract investment, and assist the development of cruise ports, infrastructure, and services.
The government will interact with stakeholders, organise familiarisation excursions, and use local celebrities and culture to advertise coastal and river locations, it was further said.
They will also create an online marketplace for reservations and bookings for cruises.
“The government is aware of the potential of cruise tourism to promote economic expansion, the development of jobs, and the preservation of cultural heritage. India can realise the full potential of cruise tourism and establish itself as a preferred cruise centre globally by addressing issues and putting in place a thorough strategy.” The Ministry of Tourism stated in a statement that it will be crucial in coordinating these initiatives and pressing for changes to make doing business in the industry easier.
The draft policy noted that cruise travel also increases consumer demand for lodging, dining out, transportation, and shopping, creating prospects for supplemental employment.
