The future of high-end tourism in Moscow

During the Moscow City Tourism Committee’s visit to India, we had the opportunity to speak with its Chairman, Evgeny Kozlov. He shared his thoughts on how Moscow is evolving as a luxury destination and what’s driving its growing appeal among high-end travelers worldwide.

Beyond the Ordinary
Moscow has long been known for its grand architecture, rich history, and world-class cultural experiences. But in recent years, the city has become a top destination for luxury travelers looking for something beyond the ordinary. From private museum tours to Michelin-starred dining, Moscow offers exclusivity in every detail. “Luxury travel in Moscow is about access,” says Evgeny. “Whether it’s a backstage tour at the Bolshoi Theatre or a private shopping experience at GUM, it’s about giving travelers something they can’t find anywhere else.” He believes the city’s appeal lies in its ability to combine heritage with modernity. “Moscow is a historic city, yes, but it’s also a luxury destination with endless possibilities.”

Tailor-Made Luxury
Today’s luxury travelers don’t just want high-end hotels; they want experiences that feel personal. Moscow is meeting this demand with tailor-made itineraries that cater to individual tastes. Whether it’s a private caviar tasting, an exclusive dinner in a royal palace, or a helicopter tour over the Kremlin, every detail is carefully curated. “The best experiences in Moscow are the ones designed specifically for the traveler,” Evgeny explains. “It’s not about checking off landmarks, it’s about creating moments that feel unique.” He adds that top-tier service providers in Moscow are constantly innovating to anticipate what guests want before they even ask. “True luxury is when a city welcomes you like a VIP from the moment you arrive.”

Luxury with a Conscience
Moscow’s luxury travel sector is also embracing sustainability. High-end hotels are focusing on eco-friendly initiatives, and fine dining restaurants are sourcing ingredients from local organic farms. Travelers are becoming more conscious of their impact, and Moscow is adapting to meet these expectations. “Luxury doesn’t mean excess—it means quality,” says Evgeny. “More travelers are choosing experiences that support local culture and the environment, whether it’s staying in a sustainably designed hotel or dining at a zero-waste restaurant.” He believes this shift isn’t just a trend but a long-term change in the industry. “Moscow has the potential to lead the way in sustainable luxury travel, offering world-class experiences without compromising on responsibility.”

Where Tech Meets Tradition
Technology is playing a bigger role in how people experience Moscow, from AI-powered concierge services to virtual reality previews of luxury suites. However, even with digital advancements, personal service remains essential. “Technology can make things more convenient, but it can’t replace human expertise,” says Evgeny. He notes that while apps can help travelers find top-rated restaurants, nothing compares to a recommendation from a knowledgeable local guide. “The best luxury experiences in Moscow come from a mix of technology and personal connection—whether it’s booking a last-minute VIP theater ticket or arranging a surprise private performance.”

Moscow’s Flexible Travel Scene
One of the biggest changes in luxury travel is the demand for flexibility. High-end travelers want the freedom to change their plans without restrictions, and Moscow’s tourism industry is adapting to this need. Hotels, private guides, and experience providers are offering more customizable services, allowing visitors to explore the city at their own pace. “The days of rigid itineraries are over,” Evgeny explains. “Luxury today is about giving travelers control—whether that means adjusting plans on the spot or offering fully personalized schedules.” He emphasizes that high-caliber service is about making every guest feel like their trip was made just for them. “When travelers leave Moscow, they should feel like the city was theirs for a moment in time.”

Setting the Standard: A City in Constant Evolution
With its unique mix of modern life combined with history and culture, Moscow is breaking barriers in luxury tourism. The city continues to attract high-end travelers by offering exclusive access, personalized service, and world-class hospitality. “Moscow isn’t just competing with other global destinations—it’s setting new standards,” says Evgeny. He believes the future of luxury travel in Moscow lies in constant evolution. “The best destinations never stay the same. Moscow will always have its iconic landmarks, but what makes it exciting is how it keeps reinventing itself.”
