Due to an increase in visitors’ interest in visiting the state, Assam saw a tremendous increase in domestic traveller numbers in 2022–2023 of over one crore.
In 2022–2023, the state counted at least 1,00,12,195 domestic visitors from the entire nation. According to data released by the state government, Assam received 17 lakh visitors in 2021–2022 and 13.5 lacks in 2020–2020.
Assam’s chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, stated on his Twitter account, “Having been born and raised in Assam’s public life, I can confirm that before 2014, none would have dreamed Assam would one day become India’s tourist hotspot. This is eloquent testimony to the Hon. Prime Minister’s nine years of work to bring about peace and growth in the nation.”
Assam’s chief minister, Sarma, had earlier said that the state had seen an astounding 575 percent increase in tourist visits during the fiscal year 2022–2023. This time period marked a key turning point for Assam’s tourism industry as the state welcomed more than 1 crore visitors.
