Egypt’s tourism revenues break record with $15 billion in 2023

Egypt’s tourism industry generated $15 billion in income in 2023, more than the $12.5 billion in 2010 and the $13 billion in 2019 records set prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and the January Revolution, respectively. Said El Batouty, who teaches international macroeconomics and tourism economics at Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, and is a member of the advisory groups for the European Commission, the European Travel Commission (ETC), and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), disclosed this to Daily News Egypt.

He also added that Egypt welcomed a record number of 14.9 million international tourists in 2023, exceeding the peak year of 2010 (14.7 million) and the pre-pandemic year of 2019 (12.9 million).

El Batouty applauded the Egyptian government’s successful efforts to protect visitors’ health and safety as well as to promote the nation’s abundant natural and cultural heritage for this outstanding accomplishment.
