Shri Piyush Goyal Minister of Commerce & Industry interacted with the stakeholders from the trade and commerce sector today ie. August 23, 2021 at the Ashoka Hotel, New Delhi. The agenda of the discussion was to discuss the measures to enhance and increase exports and also to talk through various concerns the industries are facing presently. Mr. Rajiv Mehra, President, IATO and Mr. Ravi Gosain, VP, IATO attended the interaction and raised the concerns of the travel sector.
The issues that were raised with the Hon’ble Minister were to retain the SEIS Scrips percentage of 7% which is being given to the tour operators for the last couple of years. Mr. Mehra emphasized that the industry needs immediate support from the government in terms of resuming international flights and also an extension on free e-visas for foreign tourits which will push the sector towards revival.
Talking about the interaction with the Minister, Mr. Mehra shares, “I am glad that we were heard by the Honourable Minister of Commerce, SEIS point and opening of e- tourist visa and international flight operations were all noted by him. His expressions were quite affirmative and we’re hopeful of desired results. Thanks to the support given by our Vice President Ravi Gosain who was with me, my entire EC and other members who personally called and gave suggestions.”
Goyal acknowledged the demands raised by the association and also assured that appropriate action will be taken in time. He urged officials to take advantage of new opportunities created by changes in the global supply chains in the post-Covid-19 era. The goal of the meeting was to provide a focused push to leverage and expand India’s global trade share. The meeting energised all stakeholders to work together to increase the potential and utilize local talents to meet global demand.
