Minor Hotels appoints Rohit Chopra as the Area Commercial Director for India

Global hospitality leader Minor Hotels is pleased to announce the appointment of Rohit Chopra as the new Area Commercial Director for India. With over 26 years of experience in the hospitality industry, Chopra will lead commercial strategies across Minor Hotels’ India operations, overseeing revenue growth, client relationships, and customer loyalty. His appointment comes as the group accelerates its expansion plans, with 50 new hotel openings targeted in the next decade.

Chopra will work closely with Vijay Krishnan, Vice President of Operations, India, and Richard Beh, Vice President of Commercial, Asia, to execute key commercial initiatives in the country. Before joining Minor Hotels, Chopra held leadership roles at Marriott, Hyatt, and Accor, where he last served as Director of National Sales for India and South Asia, driving strategic sales and distribution efforts.

“I’m thrilled to be part of Minor Hotels at such an exciting phase in its growth,” said Chopra. “The group’s brands are well-known for delivering exceptional guest experiences, and I look forward to leveraging my experience to further strengthen our commercial success and deepen relationships with clients and partners in India.”

Puneet Dhawan, Head of Asia at Minor Hotels, added: “We’re delighted to welcome Rohit to the team. His extensive expertise in sales, marketing, and strategy, combined with his deep understanding of the Indian market, make him the perfect fit to lead our commercial strategy in the region. We are confident that under his leadership, Minor Hotels will continue to thrive and grow in India.”

A graduate of DAV College, Amritsar, Chopra holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce and a Master’s degree in Tourism Management from the Institute of Management Studies, Ghaziabad.

Expansion Plans in India

Earlier this year, Minor Hotels set a bold target to significantly increase its presence in India by opening 50 new properties over the next 10 years. The focus will be on the upper-upscale and luxury segments, especially the Anantara, Avani, and NH Collection brands, to meet the rising demand for premium experiences.

The group’s second hotel in India, the highly anticipated Anantara Jewel Bagh Jaipur Hotel, is set to open later this year. Indian outbound travel has also contributed to the group’s success, with Anantara properties across Asia and the Middle East seeing a 72% increase in room nights from Indian travelers in 2023 compared to 2022, a trend that continues in 2024.
