Mohamed Bassam Adam recently resigned from The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). He was the deputy managing director, and Ibrahim Asim, a director and was the corporation’s longest-serving employee. The decision, made during a board meeting, was part of austerity measures announced by the government. According to an MMPRC official, Bassam and Asim left their jobs after their posts were dissolved due to structural changes under the government’s fiscal consolidation policy.
Bassam had temporarily led MMPRC as acting managing director following the resignation of Chairperson Aisha Nurain Janah and the dismissal of Managing Director Fathimath Thaufeeq (Kudee) in May. He remained in charge until Ibrahim Shiuree was appointed managing director in June. Asim, with over 30 years of experience in tourism promotion, had been with MMPRC since its inception and had previously worked at the Tourism Ministry.
The significant shakeup in MMPRC’s management in May occurred amid media reports of internal conflicts.
