SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium joins World Association of Zoos and Aquariums

SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium has achieved a significant milestone by being awarded World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) membership. This prestigious recognition marks a historic moment for the aquarium, as it becomes the first in the Oceania region to join the ranks of the world’s most influential and impactful zoos and aquariums in the conservation and welfare space.

Richard Dilly, Cluster General Manager at Merlin Entertainments Sydney attractions commented, “We are thrilled to join WAZA, reinforcing our commitment to marine conservation and education on a global scale. We look forward to collaborating with global partners to protect our oceans.”

WAZA, the unifying organisation for the global zoo and aquarium community, promotes cooperation and collaboration between zoos and aquariums worldwide. It facilitates coordination between national and regional associations and encourages the highest standards in member institutions.

This achievement is expected to open new doors for SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, enabling it to contribute to global conservation efforts and learn from the best practices of other leading institutions worldwide.

Comprising nine interactive zones, SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium houses over 700 species of marine life from Australia and around the world.

Located in ​​Darling Harbour, SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium’s must-see exhibits include the Great Barrier Reef, the Shark Valley and the Sydney Harbour zone.

This marine centre’s Jurassic Seas zone and the Penguin Boat Ride experience are also well-known. The Jurassic Seas zone takes guests to the depths of the oceans to learn about living fossils and evolution. The Penguin Boat Ride experience enables visitors to interact with adorable, feathered penguins.

SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium offers additional immersive experiences, including a touch pool, a feeding show, and a behind-the-scenes tour.

Dive below the surface and embark on a journey of amazing discovery through SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium’s extraordinary, themed habitat zones including Day & Night on the Reef – a brand new Great Barrier Reef experience, the largest in the world! Meet our resident dugong Pig and learn all about his heart-warming rescue story. Face your fears at Shark Valley, a 100-metre ocean-tunnel walkthrough amongst jaw-some sharks! Join in with our amazing experiences & ask an aquarist the questions you’ve always wanted to know about your favourite underwater creature!
