At its current fifth session, the National Assembly of Vietnam approved the expansion of tourist e-visas from 30 to 90 days, effective August 15, 2023.
A foreign national who receives an e-visa is allowed an unlimited number of entries and exits within 90 days without going through the hassle of getting a new visa.
Citizens of nations that Vietnam has unilaterally exempted from visa requirements will be given temporary residency for 45 days (up from 15 days) and may be eligible for visa issuance and temporary residence extension under the rules.
The Law on Amendments and Supplements to Several Articles of the Law on the Exit and Entry of Vietnamese Citizens, as Well as the Law on Foreigners’ Entry into, Exit from, Transit through, and Residence in Vietnam, was approved by the 15th legislature with a majority vote of 95.14% of the deputies voting “yes”. The legislation will become operative on August 15, 2023.
Le Tan Toi, chairman of the NA Committee for National Defence and Security, claimed that having immigration procedures completed online would improve the management of entrance and exit activities and improve circumstances for both Vietnamese and foreigners.
The e-visa that the Immigration Department issues to foreigners using the electronic transaction system is now only good for one visit. Citizens of 80 different nations can obtain electronic visas from Vietnam.
